Introducing Marie Antoinette by St Erasmus

Autumn Winter 2012 sees another bespoke collection from jewellery designer Pieter Louis Erasmus. Inspired by Antonia Fraser’s book “Marie Antoinette The Journey”, it tells of a different Marie Antoinette, the eighteenth century French Queen, a woman who was a mother, modern and stylish, yet restrained, a woman who was not frivolous, but enjoyed the simple luxury of being the Queen of France. Not unlike today, she lived her life in a period of social change, in a country, which had huge financial difficulties, a courageous woman who defied her enemies at her trial with consummate intelligence, arousing the admiration of even the most hostile revolutionaries.

ST•ERASMUS and The Khaled Hosseini Foundation

London, UK – August 31, 2011 – Luxury jewelry brand ST•ERASMUS is pleased to announce a philanthropic collaboration with The Khaled Hosseini Foundation (TKHF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, founded by Khaled Hosseini, author of The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns, providing humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan.

Khaled Hosseini was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, to a diplomat father and a teacher mother. Brought up in the United States of America, Khaled, while practicing medicine, became a writer and published his first novel The Kite Runner in 2003, an international best seller published in over 70 countries. In 2006 he was named a Goodwill Envoy to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the UN Refugee Agency. His second novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns was published in May of 2007.

The concept for TKHF was inspired by a trip to Afghanistan Khaled made in 2007 with the UNHCR. Started in 2009, TKHF has been actively providing aid to women and children in Afghanistan through numerous projects focused on providing shelter to refugee families, economic and education opportunities and healthcare for women and children.  To date, through their partnership with the UNHCR, the foundation has provided funding for 369 shelters resulting in homes for over 2,200 people. They continue to believe that hope for a better future for Afghanistan lies with the betterment and advancement of its most underserved population, women and children. Their programs focus on this population and the extraordinary need they face.

ST•ERASMUS dedicates its SPRING SUMMER 2012 jewelry collection to the infinitely patient women and children of Afghanistan. Through this collaboration, ST•ERASMUS hopes to assist TKHF in raising funds to support the foundation’s humanitarian efforts for the returning refugees, the women and children of Afghanistan. Some of our SPRING SUMMER 2012 statement pieces will be auctioned on the web and at charity fundraising dinners & events. All the proceeds from these auctions will be donated to TKHF.
